Market Update - December 18th, 2023
November inflation metrics were released Tuesday hitting expectations. I think we're still too far from the Fed's target to feel super optimistic. But on Wednesday, Jerome Powell (aka Santa Claus) delivered a super optimistic message to the markets sending them into a state of euphoria.

Mortgage rates lost just a bit of ground last week as the November jobs report surprises on the upside. This week we'll get the latest inflation data AND there is an interesting bill on the House and Senate floor that could potentially help the affordability issues in the US.

Rates are showing strength in a pull-back. Feeling more like a reversal than a dip. New conforming loan limits were announced last week to accommodate these higher purchase prices. Additionally, new home prices pulled back in a big way this last year. Is it a sign of what needs to happen in the existing home market?

Happy Thanksgiving Week! Mortgage rates improved last week off news concerning a slowing US economy. CPI came in down to expectations. There was a flurry of data points from unemployment claims to Wal-Mart's Q4 guidance that suggested consumers may be finding it difficult to land a job and slowing down their spending.
Market Update - November 13th, 2023
Mortgage rates gave back some of their drawback last week, as expected. In a presentation last week. the fed chair, Mr. Jerome Powell, also dropped a live f-bomb showing his more human side. We can all appreciate that, but we don't appreciate him suggesting he wouldn't hesitate to raise rates if necessary. That didn't bode well for the rate markets.

The upcoming week contains a metric ton of big data points dropping. Jobs numbers hit Tuesday (JOLTS), Wednesday (ADP), Thursday (Unemployment) and Friday (BLS). Jerome Powell speaks on Wednesday and we get to hear whether the Fed Funds Rate bumps. Hang on tight! I also share some feedback on some recent headlines around spikes in foreclosures. Hint : It's not as big of a deal as the media claims.

Rates are higher and existing home sales are down. Additionally, the NAR class action lawsuit trial kicked off last week. It’s not time to panic. We will persevere.
